The Town of Bristol, Indiana, approved the annexation of over 500 acres of land, sparking concerns among community members that it could lead to an unwanted industrial park, specifically an "electronic complex." Doug Mick, a Bristol resident, has filed a lawsuit against the Town, alleging the council failed to follow state law and disregarded community input.

The Town of Bristol, Indiana, is facing a lawsuit after its town council approved the annexation of more than 500 acres of land last month. Community members, including Madeleine Thomas, expressed strong opposition, fearing the annexed farmland, currently zoned agricultural, would transition to industrial zoning to accommodate a noisy "electronic complex" in residential areas. Bristol resident Doug Mick filed the lawsuit against the Town, asserting that the council failed to adhere to Indiana law, made the decision without sufficient reason, abused its power by ignoring community concerns, and allegedly wasted taxpayer money. Mick stated he reluctantly filed the lawsuit to protect his community, highlighting that the council "totally disregarded what the community wants." The annexed land is located just south of the Humane Society of Elkhart County, and the ordinance indicates it was voluntarily annexed by its owners, following Indiana's annexation laws, including a fiscal plan. However, there is currently no finalized plan for the land's development. When WSBT 22 reached out for comment on the lawsuit, the town's manager responded, "Due to ongoing litigation, we have no comment." The lawsuit is in its early stages, with no hearing date yet scheduled.
