Plans for data center campus in Brighton halted after developers withdraw rezoning application
Developers withdrew their rezoning application for a proposed 2.5-million-square-foot data center campus in Brighton after strong resident opposition. Brighton officials are considering a temporary moratorium and stricter rules for future data center projects, while the developer may submit a revised application.
Alberta Development Partners withdrew its rezoning application for an eight-building, 2.5-million-square-foot data center campus planned near County Road in northeast Brighton. The proposal prompted residents, including homeowners Shannon Ogden and Arbery Hernandez, to voice concerns that the development would disrupt the area’s quiet residential character and affect property values.
The withdrawal came after residents attended a Brighton City Council meeting to oppose the project. City officials said the developer could submit a new rezoning application, while council members considered a temporary moratorium on data center development and stricter requirements for any future proposals. The city did not explain why residents were not notified sooner about the withdrawn application, and Alberta Development Partners had not responded to requests for comment.
