Rep. Randy Fine links domestic AI data center opposition to Chinese influence

U.S. Representative Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida, described the current political landscape as an existential battle for Western civilization, rather than just a domestic election. In an interview with Fox News Digital, Fine connected anti-Israel sentiment and domestic opposition to AI data centers directly to foreign influence operations orchestrated by Iran and China. He positioned himself as a staunch defender of President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" agenda.
Fine contended that foreign money has significantly influenced public opinion, particularly concerning the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which he sees as a litmus test for the American left. He criticized what he perceived as hypocrisy in reactions to global conflicts, asserting that outrage over Israel's self-defense far exceeds concern for other countries' human rights abuses. He also defended Robert Kraft's decision to cancel Macklemore's tour dates, arguing it was a private citizen's right to refuse a platform for what he deemed antisemitic views.
Regarding university protests, Fine drew a line at violence, emphasizing that Jewish students' ability to get an education should not be hindered. He equated the current protests to "free Palestine idiots" he encountered in college, but noted that today's protests are more disruptive. Fine, a self-proclaimed "MAGA through and through" warrior for Trump's agenda, believes the former president is essential in preventing the "destruction of Western civilization."
Addressing the rising opposition to data centers and AI regulation, Fine warned that China is exploiting these issues for geopolitical gain. He explained that the 21st-century global power struggle will be defined by AI dominance, which involves hardware, software, energy infrastructure, and "compute" (data centers). Fine criticized domestic energy policies that hinder cheap, plentiful energy, giving China an advantage. He concluded that while data centers shouldn't be in every neighborhood, they are crucial for America's re-industrialization and winning the AI war against China.
