House 13B profile: Former union leader, veteran Doyle emphasizes public service
Minnesota House candidate Justin Doyle supports a statewide moratorium on new data center construction, citing noise, higher utility costs, water consumption and environmental impacts. He also favors banning local officials from signing nondisclosure agreements with data center companies and adding environmental protections.
Democrat Justin Doyle, a candidate for Minnesota House District 13B, said he opposes further data center construction in Minnesota because of potential noise pollution, higher utility costs, water use and environmental impacts. He argued that the facilities create relatively few permanent jobs and provide limited long-term economic benefits to local communities.
Doyle supports a statewide moratorium on new data centers, a ban on local government nondisclosure agreements with data center companies and additional environmental safeguards. His comments come as Waite Park and St. Joseph have enacted one-year moratoriums, while developers have shown interest in projects in Becker and Rice. Doyle’s position differs from organized labor groups that generally support data center construction because of the union jobs involved.
