Burrillville Council Approves Nasonville Water Tank, Takes No Action on Data Center Ban Petition
The Burrillville Town Council approved a glass-fused steel water tank for the Nasonville water system. It took no action on a resident petition to amend the zoning ordinance to explicitly ban data centers, with officials saying existing rules already prohibit them.
The Burrillville Town Council approved a glass-fused steel composite tank for the planned Nasonville water system. Public Works Director Jeffrey McCormick said the design has an estimated 50-year life-cycle cost of about $5 million and requires little maintenance. The water project is intended in part to address groundwater pollution in the village and support future grant applications.
The council did not act on a resident petition seeking to define and prohibit data centers in every zoning district. Town Solicitor William Dimitri said unlisted uses are already prohibited, while Council Member Dennis Anderson argued that naming data centers could create an opportunity for developers to seek a use variance and sue the town. Residents urged the council to consider the amendment or obtain additional legal opinions, but no motion was made.
