Maysville may put moratorium on new data centers
The Maysville City Council discussed a potential 180-day moratorium on new data center requests to allow time for updating land use codes. This decision follows significant citizen opposition to an already approved data center project by Northern Data/Rumble, which would not be affected by the proposed moratorium.
The Maysville City Council is considering a 180-day moratorium on future data center requests to update its land use management code, following a discussion at its July 6 meeting. City Attorney Doug Kidd is tasked with drafting a resolution, but no immediate action was taken.
This move comes amid strong citizen opposition to a previously approved data center project by Northern Data/Rumble in the town's industrial park, which received special use approval in January 2025. Residents have voiced concerns over water, noise, and environmental issues. The proposed moratorium would specifically target future developments and would not impact the Northern Data/Rumble project.
The initiative aligns with actions in other nearby areas, including Commerce, after Jackson County implemented new data center rules last year.
