The Mariposa County Board of Supervisors voted 5–0 on Oct. 20 to adopt a 45-day urgency ordinance temporarily pausing data center development in unincorporated parts of the county. The measure took effect immediately and also halted related permit processing.

Supervisor Shannon Poe introduced the item, which Supervisor Rosemarie Smallcombe moved for adoption. The ordinance gives county officials time to prepare proposed land-use regulations addressing data centers’ potential water consumption, electricity demand, noise and other impacts.
