The developer of the "Project Pumpkin" data center in Columbia County, Georgia has not yet resubmitted an application for a land disturbance permit. The county commissioners voted to add more conditions before issuing the permit, including a 500-foot natural buffer, removing residential uses, and limiting sound to 65 decibels. The developer's original application addressed wetlands and stream buffers. Georgia Power customers have asked the public service commission to pause utility expansions to meet data center demands.
