Charlotte City Council is expected to vote on extending a moratorium on new data center development before it expires November 5. The pause reflects concerns about electricity demand, water usage and neighborhood impacts, while Flexential executive Jacob Horr defended evaluating projects based on their specific facts.
Charlotte City Council is expected to decide Monday whether to extend the city’s moratorium on new data center development. The current pause is scheduled to expire Nov. 5 and was imposed amid concerns about electricity demand, water consumption and effects on surrounding neighborhoods.
WCCB Charlotte received an inside look at Flexential’s north Charlotte data center and interviewed company executive Jacob Horr. Horr said the city is asking appropriate questions about power, water and natural-resource impacts, while emphasizing that data centers differ and should be evaluated individually.
