Local construction union expresses interest in Hermantown data center development

Following Tuesday's announcement regarding Google's involvement with the proposed Hermantown Data Center, the Duluth Building Construction Trades Council said they are ready to provide thousands of local workers to help construct the data center. The union president, Jack Carlson, stated they have been interested in getting involved even before the Google announcement, and are prepared to provide workers for various construction jobs like electricians, plumbers, and painters. The data center project would be a big opportunity for the union to showcase their workforce, as Carlson said they are always ready for large business and corporate projects coming to the area. The announcement comes as the Hermantown, Rice Lake, and Proctor State of the Cities Luncheon saw a record number of attendees, where the mayors discussed various investments and growth happening in their communities.
