Rep. Riley Moore of West Virginia announced his support for the Ratepayer Protection Act, legislation introduced by Rep. Gabe Evans of Colorado. The bill would require state public utility commissions to establish standards ensuring that large data centers cover the full cost of power-grid upgrades associated with their operations.

Supporters say the measure would protect families, small businesses and other ratepayers from subsidizing data center expansion. The proposal would also preserve state and local authority over data center development.
