DeForest 'no data center' organizer walks the proposed transmission line route
Opponents of the proposed 190-mile BECI transmission line walked portions of its route through southern Wisconsin, stopping in Lake Mills to hear residents’ concerns. The line, proposed by Midcontinent Grid Solutions, is awaiting review and a final decision from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.
A group of transmission-line opponents reached Lake Mills on Sept. 29 during a planned walk along much of the proposed BECI route. The 190-mile line, proposed by Midcontinent Grid Solutions to connect three electric facilities, has drawn concerns from farmers and communities over property impacts and potential effects on agricultural land and health.
Winona Storms, a member of the No Data Center in DeForest group, organized the walk with advocate Quinn Natsky and others. Organizers are collecting resident testimony, surveys and supporting evidence for the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, which is accepting public comments before considering the project for approval this winter.
