Gov: Hanover County Board of Supervisors
Hanover County leaders voted unanimously to delay any increase to the tax rate on data center computer equipment, saying more analysis is needed before making a decision that could affect future development.
The Hanover County Board of Supervisors had been considering raising the tax rate on computer equipment used by data centers from $0.45 per $100 of assessed value to as much as $3 per $100. The tax would apply to equipment owned by data center operators and would not be paid by residents.
During a meeting on Wednesday, June 24, the board ultimately decided to leave the current rate in place while county officials continue developing a broader data center policy and study the industry’s financial impact.
