This past Tuesday’s county council meeting saw some heated exchanges between council members who desire stricter regulations, and those who are concerned that too much regulation would deter business. The most controversy surrounds whether the ordinance would be retroactive, and apply to data center projects already in development, like the 6 million square foot Project Washington. When the time came, the county council listened to over an hour of comments from the public, mostly in support of stricter regulations. After months of revisions and compromises to Councilman Dave Carter’s proposed ordinance, he hopes to bring the final version of the ordinance to vote next Tuesday, March 10th.
