Adrian Carvajal, a Six News anchor, reported on a recent Lacy Lakeview City Council meeting where leaders discussed a potential wastewater reuse solution for the proposed Infoey data center. The development requires billions of gallons of water daily, prompting significant concern among city officials and the community regarding the depletion of existing freshwater supplies.
During the meeting, the city council focused on a preliminary development agreement to study a sewer mining system. This system, proposed by Energy Systems Group and reuse, a wastewater company, would divert wastewater from the cities of Waco and Lacy Lakeview to a specialized treatment facility for purification and reuse. A spokesperson for reuse assured that the advanced membrane technology would effectively remove pollutants, viruses, and bacteria, providing clean water without impacting fresh groundwater sources.
Community members, however, continued to express concerns not only about the large water demands but also about potential noise and other forms of pollution. The reuse spokesperson countered these concerns by explaining their treatment process neutralizes odors by converting gas to nitrogen and that their tri-lobe blowers are among the quietest on the market, producing less than ambient noise at 50 feet. An account executive for Energy Systems Group also pledged financial support to ensure the project's feasibility for the city.
No final decision was reached at the meeting. Further studies are slated for the coming weeks to determine if the city of Lacy Lakeview will proceed with the proposed data center project and the associated wastewater reuse system.
