Katie Ottenweller, Google's regional lead for energy market development, stated the five-year fund is dedicated to "efficiency and affordability" initiatives. Organizations like Crowley’s Ridge Development Council and Groundswell will utilize portions of this money to address health and safety hazards in homes and implement energy-saving improvements. Ronnie Newman, senior vice president of Groundswell Community Power, detailed that the upgrades would include replacing HVAC systems, adding attic insulation, and changing windows and doors, expecting to lower residents' utility bills by at least 30 percent. Residents like James Payne, who struggles to afford utilities for his century-old home, are targeted beneficiaries of this program, which opens its application process on May 11th.
