Ashville Voters Overwhelmingly Reject EdgeConneX Data Center Deal in Landslide Referendum
Ashville voters repealed the village resolution supporting EdgeConneX’s proposed $100 million-plus data center complex by an 81.65% to 18.35% margin. The decision invalidates development terms that would have exempted the project from the village’s active data center moratorium, blocking plans for two buildings and an on-site natural gas power facility.
Ashville voters decisively rejected the village’s agreement with data center developer EdgeConneX, voting to repeal Resolution 06-2026 by a margin of 1,468 to 330. Under Ohio’s municipal referendum rules, the “No” vote repealed the council-approved measure rather than affirming it.
The proposed project would have included two large data center buildings and an on-site natural gas power-generating facility on approximately 195 acres, with an estimated value exceeding $100 million. The referendum followed months of legal disputes and community activism and nullifies provisions that would have exempted the development from Ashville’s active data center moratorium.
