Charlotte climate activists put on a Halloween trivia night. The spooky topic? Data centers
Charlotte-Mecklenburg climate activists hosted a data center-themed trivia night to raise awareness about concerns including water use, utility rates and local politics. The event followed the Charlotte City Council's decision to extend the city's data center moratorium by 11 months, through Oct. 18, 2027.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Climate Leaders held a data center-themed trivia night at Patagonia Charlotte in South End, drawing about 20 participants. Organizer Faith Silva said hyperscale data centers have become a major local climate concern, while trivia questions addressed water consumption, utility rates and politics.
The event came shortly after the Charlotte City Council voted to extend the city's data center moratorium by 11 months. The moratorium is now set to expire Oct. 18, 2027, giving residents and officials nearly another year to consider data center development and its potential impacts.
