Amazon Data Services, the operational division managing servers and infrastructure for Amazon Web Services (AWS), recently acquired a former T. Rowe Price Group office building in Owings Mills, Baltimore County, for $15.2 million. However, a spokesperson confirmed that the property will not be used as a data center.
While Amazon did not disclose the intended use of the Owings Mills site, the company is actively expanding its data center presence elsewhere in Maryland. This includes a project underway in Frederick, for which the Maryland Department of the Environment approved an air permit in March, allowing for the installation of emergency backup generators. Additionally, Amazon has another data center project proposed for Calvert County.
The purchase in Baltimore County and ongoing data center developments are part of Amazon's broader regional operations, which also include several warehouses and recently expanded delivery options in nearby cities like Washington, D.C.
