Discussion of data centers is Caryville Planning’s lone agenda item

The Town of Caryville Planning Commission convened Thursday to address a single agenda item: an amendment to the zoning ordinance concerning data centers. Two ordinances were presented for discussion and consideration. The commission successfully passed Ordinance 2026-04, an amendment that specifically dictates the permissible locations for data centers within the town. Following this approval, the ordinance is slated to proceed to the Caryville Board of Mayor and Aldermen for a final vote. However, Ordinance 2026-05, which aimed to provide a definitive definition for data centers, was deferred to a subsequent meeting. Several planning commission members expressed a desire to incorporate more precise stipulations into this ordinance, particularly concerning critical operational aspects such as noise levels and power consumption associated with data center facilities.
