Nashville Zoo as facility launches petition against construction of data center near property
The Nashville Zoo is opposing a proposed 69,000 sq ft DC BLOX data center near its property in Nashville, Tennessee, due to environmental concerns for its 3,000 animals. An online petition against the project has gained thousands of signatures, and the Metro Council is considering new legislation to restrict data center locations.
The Nashville Zoo has launched an online petition and is actively opposing the construction of a proposed 69,000 square foot data center by DC BLOX on Grasmere Park, mere feet from the zoo's property. Zoo officials and community members express significant concern over the potential environmental impacts on the more than 3,000 animals in their care.
DC BLOX acknowledged the concerns, stating their commitment to working with local officials, technical experts, community members, and the Nashville Zoo to minimize local impacts and eliminate any health risks to residents and animals, while also adhering to all federal and local environmental regulations. Despite these assurances, the zoo's online petition against the project has garnered thousands of signatures.
In response to the growing number of data centers in Nashville – with over two dozen already existing and 61 statewide – the Metro Council is currently considering new legislation. This proposed bill aims to restrict where data centers can be built within the city and has already passed its first reading.
