South Bend Township Supervisors are planning to enact a moratorium on development to prevent an AI data center from being built. The move comes after they were surprised to learn a local parcel was for sale to a Florida-based AI data center group, and the township currently lacks zoning ordinances. Supervisors will meet with their solicitor to finalize the moratorium and begin establishing zoning measures.

South Bend Township Supervisors in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, are considering a moratorium on development to thwart plans for an AI data center. Vice Chairman Don Linsenberger expressed surprise after learning a local parcel, currently a hunting property, was listed for sale to a Florida-based AI data center group. The supervisors were informed by local planning specialists that establishing a zoning ordinance in the currently unzoned township could take several years.

To address the immediate threat, the supervisors intend to consult with their township solicitor to finalize the moratorium's details. Concurrently, they plan to move forward with implementing broader zoning measures for the township.
