A proposed data center project near Apex, North Carolina was scrapped after facing significant community pushback. The Protect Wake County Coalition, a local advocacy group, organized against the project, which was planned on a site adjacent to the Sharon Harris nuclear plant. The Apex mayor and town council are now considering a one-year moratorium on further data center development to allow more research, but the coalition views this as a temporary fix and wants to see more permanent zoning changes to prevent negative impacts on the city's infrastructure.
