A proposed data center development in Federalsburg, Maryland, by developers Wright Road LLC and MIB Federalsburg LLC, is facing considerable pushback from residents and skepticism from town officials. Hundreds of residents attended a public information session at Federalsburg Elementary School, with many expressing opposition and feeling their questions about the project, dubbed the Fieldstone Technology Center, went unanswered.

David Wright, founder and chief strategist of Landwright Power Strategies and a representative for the developers, stated that Federalsburg was chosen due to its suitable zoning ordinances and location that allows for natural gas use. However, Mayor Kim Abner and several Federalsburg Town Council members raised concerns, with Council member Brandy James declaring herself a "hard no" on the proposal, citing a reluctance to "sell the town out for money" despite potential tax revenue. Environmental and noise issues were also prominent concerns.

The Caroline County government clarified it has no direct authority over the project, as it falls within Federalsburg's town limits, but noted it could be involved in specific permits. Notably, the Caroline County Commissioners' agenda includes an item for a temporary moratorium on data centers within county limits, while the Federalsburg Town Council will hold a workshop on July 20 to discuss a moratorium for data centers within the town. This comes after a previous controversial proposal for a salmon farm on the same land was withdrawn due to significant environmental opposition.
