Explaining Birmingham's new data center ordinance

Birmingham has enacted a new ordinance setting 20 stringent conditions for future data center developers. City staff noted that these regulations make it easier to build a steel plant than a data center in the city.

The ordinance includes 20 conditions future developers will need to meet if they want to bring a data center to Birmingham. During Tuesday’s presentations, city staff went so far as to say it would be easier for a steel plant to be built in the city than a data center.
