Crypto-mining company hosts open house after Cedar Falls rejects zoning changes
Cedar Falls city leaders unanimously rejected proposed zoning changes related to crypto-mining facilities, prompting Simple Mining to host an open house to educate residents. The company aims to address community misconceptions and showcase responsible operation, while residents remain divided on the benefits and potential impacts of such facilities in the city.
After Cedar Falls city leaders unanimously rejected proposed zoning changes for crypto-mining facilities, Simple Mining, a crypto-mining company, hosted an open house in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The company's Founder and CEO, Adam Haynes, stated the event aimed to educate the community and dispel misconceptions about data centers and their operations, emphasizing their responsible practices.
Residents were shown hydro-cooling systems and noise levels comparable to the company's Manchester facility. While some residents, like Axel Hoogland, expressed openness to a facility if properly zoned and responsible, others, such as Dave Deibler, voiced strong opposition, believing there is no benefit for Cedar Falls citizens.
The open house occurred just two days after the unanimous rejection of the zoning ordinance. Haynes acknowledged the city's desire for thorough understanding, and Hoogland expressed satisfaction that the ordinance did not pass, hoping for a better-drafted code. Simple Mining plans to continue its outreach as the city decides on the future role of crypto mining within its boundaries.
