The Fairfield City Council has enacted a 12-month moratorium on new data center development within the city. The decision, made during a recent regular meeting, was prompted by widespread community concerns regarding potential data center construction, despite the absence of any formal development proposals submitted to the council.
Councilwoman at-large Elizabeth Estey emphasized the moratorium as a proactive measure to address citizen apprehensions and establish a temporary framework. Mayor Connie Boyer also suggested forming a task force to further investigate the issue. The council plans to use this pause to conduct a comprehensive review of its existing zoning ordinances, especially as it prepares to hire a new planning and zoning director.
