
PUC takes further action to deal with times when electricity supplies may be strained
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission voted 4-0 to seek public comment on proposed safeguards for periods when electricity supplies are strained. The changes would establish new procedures for utilities managing large electricity loads, including data centers, as development increases demand on the regional grid.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission approved a Tentative Order by a 4-0 vote to solicit public comment on changes to how electric utilities prepare for and respond to periods of tight electricity supply.
The proposed procedures would require electric distribution companies to address large loads such as data centers, which are adding demand to the regional grid. The safeguards are intended to protect consumers and maintain electric reliability during strained supply conditions.
