Kirksville City Council to hear in-house presentation regarding potential data center development at Monday study session

The Kirksville City Council is scheduled to hold a special study session on Monday, July 20, to review various municipal issues, prominently including a presentation on potential data center development. While no specific projects have been formally proposed, city officials will hear findings from staff research indicating that Kirksville possesses sufficient electric and water capacity to accommodate such facilities. The discussion will encompass critical considerations like zoning regulations, potential community benefit agreements, and the possibility of enacting a moratorium on data center construction, with a recommendation to restrict future developments to heavy industrial zones.

During the same session, the council will also receive updates on citywide addressing initiatives, which aim to resolve inconsistencies in street names and property addresses for improved emergency services and delivery accuracy. Other agenda items include a proposal from Police Chief Scott Williamson to standardize city speed limits across various districts and a recommendation from city staff to revise the definition of business districts.
