Nobles County commissioners end AUAR study for data center
Nobles County Commissioners have unanimously voted to end an Alternative Urban Areawide Review (AUAR) study for a proposed data center development by Geronimo Power within Elk and Summit Lake townships. This decision came after Geronimo Power indicated its intent to terminate the study, aligning with the board's preference against data centers in agricultural preservation areas.
WORTHINGTON, Minnesota – The Nobles County Board of Commissioners recently voted unanimously to terminate an Alternative Urban Areawide Review (AUAR) study for a data center project.
The decision followed an email from Geronimo Power, the developer, expressing its intention to conclude the study for the proposed data center in Elk and Summit Lake townships.
Nobles County Administrator Bruce Heitkamp noted that this action aligns with the board and Planning Commission's stance against permitting data centers in the county's agricultural preservation areas, which effectively eliminated the project's focus area.
The commissioners formally acknowledged a Mutual Termination Agreement to finalize the end of the study.
