Residents in Arkansas, Missouri unite against proposed Oregon County data center
Residents in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas are protesting potential data center development on a site just north of Thayer in Oregon County, Missouri. They cite concerns about water use, noise, pollution, limited local jobs and possible impacts on Mammoth Spring State Park, although no developer has committed to the property.
Residents from Missouri and Arkansas held a protest in Mammoth Spring against potential data center development on land just north of Thayer, Missouri, near Mammoth Spring State Park and the state line. The property is owned by Charles McCullough, but no developer has yet taken on the site.
Protest organizer Jeremiah Read and Oregon County advocates Thomas Sallings and Magic Keller said the project could threaten the area’s water resources during an extended drought, increase pollution and noise, and provide few jobs or lasting benefits to nearby communities. Resident Romona Hampton, who lives near the proposed site, also raised concerns about noise affecting her farm and wildlife, as well as possible impacts from heated water drawn from the spring.
