Dallas data center IT company sells for more than $1B
Dallas-based IT provider GDT, which specializes in data center infrastructure, has been acquired by UK-based Softcat for $1.05 billion. GDT will operate as a subsidiary, retaining its workforce and leadership, aiming to expand Softcat's global reach and service offerings.
GDT, an IT provider based in Dallas specializing in data center infrastructure, announced its acquisition by UK-based firm Softcat for $1.05 billion. The deal highlights the robust tech sector and data center market in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is experiencing significant growth.
Under the terms of the acquisition, GDT, which employs 900 people, will maintain its current workforce and leadership team, operating as a subsidiary of Softcat. Shawn O’Grady, GDT’s CEO, stated that the merger would provide a broader range of solutions, deeper resources, and global reach. Softcat, an IT infrastructure provider listed on the London Stock Exchange, sought to expand its technology services beyond the U.K. and Ireland, particularly into North America, citing GDT's U.S. scale and enterprise customer base as key factors in the acquisition. GDT also maintains a campus in Bangalore, India, and offers networking services in addition to data center infrastructure.
