Posey County residents react to proposed Amazon Data Center
Amazon is considering several properties in Posey County, Indiana, for a potential data center and held an open house to answer residents’ questions. Residents expressed mixed reactions, with some seeking stronger protections and others concerned the project would bring limited local employment while affecting the community.
Amazon officials held an open house in Posey County to discuss the company’s early-stage plans for a possible data center and gather feedback from residents and local elected officials. The company said it is reviewing multiple properties and wants to work with the community before selecting a site or determining the project’s impacts.
Residents voiced differing views. Community activist Christopher Newman said more information is needed, while Newburgh resident Shannon Strong argued the potential drawbacks could outweigh the benefits and questioned whether the project would create many permanent local jobs. The Posey County Area Plan Commission recently voted on a data center ordinance, but the report did not specify the outcome of that vote.
