Denver's newly formed data center working group has begun developing policy recommendations after the City Council approved a moratorium on new data center construction. The group was formed in response to concerns surrounding the CoreSite facility in Globeville and is expected to work through May or longer.

Denver's data center working group has held its first meeting as the city develops rules for future facilities. The 26-member panel, selected from more than 250 applicants, includes community members and industry experts and is tasked with recommending policies that address data center development and the protection of Denver's resources.

The group was created after the Denver City Council approved a moratorium on data center construction. Councilman Darrell Watson said Denver is among the first large municipalities to take such action and establish an extensive public working-group process. The CoreSite facility in Globeville, located in Watson's district, helped prompt the moratorium. The group is scheduled to continue meeting through May, or longer if needed to help the council draft legislation.
