Protestors gather in opposition of Project Midspan
Protestors gathered in Bradley County, Tennessee, to oppose Project Midspan and Project River, proposed data center developments reportedly spearheaded by Wright Brothers Construction. Concerns were raised about environmental impacts, including threats to bald eagles and water quality. Project Midspan is currently on pause, but residents are demanding further studies.
Residents of Bradley County, Tennessee, held a demonstration in front of the Wright Brothers Construction headquarters to protest Project Midspan and Project River, two proposed data center projects. These projects are reportedly being led by Wright Brothers Construction.
The protestors voiced strong disapproval, raising environmental concerns such as the impact on bald eagles and water quality. One protestor highlighted fears about water contamination, stating, "What about our clean water? Mr. Wright, I challenge you to drink some sewage water straight from my toilet and see how it tastes 'cuz that's what's going to taste like when it comes out of a data center." Another resident expressed fears about the destruction of their way of life and property values, stating they live on three sides of the proposed development.
Project Midspan, intended for over 300 acres behind Walker Valley Elementary, is currently on pause, as is Project River. Despite the pause, concerns remain high in Cleveland, with some even claiming that deforestation continues. Protestors are calling for thorough studies and due diligence to ensure the safety of the projects, with one stating, "Things need to be truly paused. Studies need to be done. People need to do their due diligence and make sure this is truly safe."
Wright Brothers Construction was reportedly holding a company picnic during the protest and declined to comment when asked by News12's Lily Ford.
