Piedmont City Council to discuss data center zoning, community concerns
The Piedmont City Council will discuss next steps for a proposed data center that remains subject to additional rezoning hearings before final approval. Residents have raised concerns about water use, noise and effects on nearby homes, while the council approved an amended design plan and required studies of environmental, water, sound, power and other impacts.
The Piedmont City Council is scheduled to meet Monday to discuss a proposed data center and the remaining steps in its approval process. The council voted 4-1 to approve an amended design plan, including a requirement that Frisco Road remain open and be rerouted around the property, but the project still needs rezoning hearings before the Planning Commission and City Council.
Residents have expressed concerns about the development's potential effects on water usage, noise levels and nearby homeowners. The council required the developer to fund additional environmental, sound, power, water, traffic, housing and wastewater studies, with the city retaining the option to require further assessments.
