Millington joins area governments in weighing data center rules
Millington approved a six-month moratorium on new applications for data centers and related industrial-scale facilities. City officials cited water and utility concerns and said the pause will allow time to establish appropriate regulations.
The Millington Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved Resolution 44-2026, imposing a six-month moratorium on new applications for data centers, non-grid power generation, accessory computing and related industrial-scale facilities. The restriction took effect immediately and is scheduled to expire April 12, 2027, unless extended.
City Manager Frankie Dakin said the moratorium is intended to give Millington time to develop appropriate regulations before data center applications are submitted. The action follows similar efforts by other Memphis-area governments to regulate data center development, amid concerns about water use and utility capacity.
