The Saline Township Planning Commission, at its May 5 meeting, unanimously approved language for implementing a moratorium on future development projects and adopted revised By-Laws. The commission also initiated the process for updating the township's master plan and amending ordinances. During public comments, residents reiterated their dissatisfaction with board members and consultants over a previously proposed data center project, which had been rejected. Resident Dawn Wagstaff clarified that both the planning commission and the township board had rejected the data center proposal, a decision not subject to a public referendum, contrary to earlier public understanding. The commission's approval of the moratorium language means the township board would have the authority to invoke a moratorium on all future development, allowing for additional research and oversight. Discussions around replacing consultants for the master plan update were also raised. The township board is scheduled to meet on May 13th, with the next planning commission meeting on June 2nd.
