Vantage says it committed to "sustainable data centers."
Vantage is building a $15 billion AI data center campus in Port Washington, Wisconsin, and claims to be transparent about its sustainability efforts, including a closed-loop water cooling system. However, environmental groups are suing the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, alleging that environmental impact statements for the site were not completed. Vantage maintains it underwent a rigorous review with state regulators.
Vantage North America President Dana Adams stated that the company has been transparent about its $15 billion "Lighthouse" AI data center campus under construction in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Adams noted that information regarding the project's power, cooling, and sustainability is publicly available on their website.
The company showcased its use of a closed-loop water cooling system to minimize water consumption and containment areas to reduce energy needs in data halls operating 24/7. Vantage indicated that its daily water use for general facilities like kitchens and bathrooms would be about 22,000 gallons, with a one-time use of approximately 12 million gallons for a key data center component.
Despite Vantage's assertions, environmental groups have filed a lawsuit against the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), claiming that environmental impact statements for the Port Washington site were not completed. Adams affirmed that Vantage underwent a thorough vetting process with the DNR, which was diligent in gathering all necessary information. Vantage also committed to complying with state regulations on air and noise emissions and funding a $3 million watershed restoration project in Port Washington to enhance the sustainability of the Valley Creek corridor.
