Halifax County postpones data center moratorium hearing to Nov. 19
The Halifax County Board of Commissioners postponed a legislative hearing on a proposed data center moratorium to Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. The county has approved a $1.7 million deal with Quiet Data Centers-Halifax for a 10,000-square-foot facility on a 251-acre industrial site near Enfield, despite one commissioner’s dissent.
The Halifax County Board of Commissioners rescheduled its legislative hearing on a proposed data center moratorium from Oct. 19 to Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. The location for the meeting had not been determined, although Inborden School in Enfield had been considered for the original hearing.
The board previously approved a $1.7 million deal with Quiet Data Centers-Halifax to develop a 10,000-square-foot fixed data center at the county’s 251-acre Industrial Site near Highway 301 in Enfield. Commissioner Gary Redding was the lone dissenting vote and sought more time for consultants to address potential facility risks before the land purchase closed.
Halifax County Economic Development Director Cathy Scott said the project could generate $250 million in taxable investment, at least 50 higher-wage jobs, $1.75 million in annual tax revenue and $250,000 annually for the Halifax County School Division.
