The City of East Peoria, Illinois, is contemplating the acquisition of over 270 acres of farmland situated between U.S. Route 24 and Centennial Drive, on its northwestern boundary. Mayor John Kahl has explicitly stated that this parcel, considered a prime site for future development, will not be designated for a data center or a solar project.

The city secured the property last month at an auction with a winning bid of approximately $5.2 million. The city council believes that this area represents one of the few remaining "available growth corridors" and that municipal control over its future development aligns with the city's best interests. The proposed land sale is slated for presentation at an upcoming council meeting, though a vote on the matter is not anticipated at that time.
