Democrat Michele Henry and Republican Darrell Neeley are competing to replace retiring Indiana state Rep. Ed Clere in District 72, which includes most of Floyd County. Both candidates said state and local officials should address residents' financial concerns, though they differed in emphasis on economic policy and government’s role.

Data center development was a major issue in Southern Indiana. Henry said the state should require operators to pay their own way and better understand potential health and environmental effects before new facilities are built. Neeley supported additional regulation, advance notice for public meetings and hearings, protections for utility ratepayers, and New Albany’s decision to impose a moratorium while officials assess data center impacts.
