The inspection by the El Reno Fire Marshal, detailed in an abatement notice and published in the El Reno Tribune, highlighted multiple deficiencies. These included missing keys for first responder access, electrical equipment and wiring issues, vegetation posing a fire risk, unmaintained portable fire extinguishers, and flammable liquids stored near combustible materials. Additionally, problems were found with the property's private fire hydrant, which was connected to the leaking water line.
City leaders stated that low water levels are no longer a concern. They also revealed that a stop-work order was issued to Athlon Blockchain LLC three years prior due to code violations, but the company continued operations. The city admitted its failure to properly follow up on the order, attributing it to an assumption that the order would be respected. The city is now implementing internal changes to prevent future incidents and has promised that residents will not be responsible for the cost of the wasted water, vowing to use all available means to collect the money from Athlon Blockchain LLC. The company has been unreachable for comment, and the city plans to hold a hearing next week to address the property's compliance.
