White Fiber is preparing to purchase portions of the former Unifi property in Yadkinville for $60 million and convert the facilities into data centers. The project is expected to generate an estimated $5 million in annual tax revenue for the town and $7 million for Yadkin County, although the sale had not yet been finalized at the time of the Oct. 5 town meeting.

Residents Rhonda Titus and Martha Holden spoke during public comment, with Titus questioning whether Yadkinville has established sufficient safeguards for the proposed hyperscale industrial use. Her concerns included noise, environmental impacts, electrical-grid strain, wastewater and the long-term decommissioning of the site. Town Manager Mike Koser said White Fiber may hold a future public question-and-answer session similar to one conducted at its Madison facility.
