Colleton County data center proposal draws opposition at zoning hearing

A controversial proposal for an 850-acre data center in Colleton County, South Carolina went before the Zoning Board of Appeals, where residents voiced opposition to the project during a public hearing. The data center proposal has already received approval from the county council, but requires special zoning approval as it would be built outside of the current zoning code. The developer claims the data center would use a closed-loop cooling system and create 450 new jobs for Colleton County citizens, but residents are concerned about the environmental impact on the surrounding ACE Basin area and water resources.
