Meta expands Eagle Mountain data center, makes significant community investments
Meta is expanding its Eagle Mountain Data Center in Utah, pushing its total capital investment in the state past $3 billion. Alongside this expansion, Meta is making significant community investments, including a $600,000 land grant for a school and a $1.5 million commitment to an education foundation. This development highlights the data center's impact on local infrastructure, job creation, and energy demands, with other companies also establishing a presence in the area.
Meta announced a new expansion of its Eagle Mountain Data Center in Utah, increasing its total capital investment in the state to over $3 billion. The expansion is expected to create 1,200 construction jobs and more than 300 permanent operational roles, primarily for local workers.
Alongside the data center expansion, Meta is making substantial community contributions as part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg's $1 billion Future Is for Everyone Fund. These include a $600,000 land grant to help Lake Mountain School District acquire three acres for a new elementary school and a $1.5 million commitment to the Lake Mountain Education Foundation, along with an annual $50,000 for student learning initiatives. Additionally, Meta has committed $450,000 towards Eagle Mountain’s Walden Park Observatory, bringing its total to $700,000.
Eagle Mountain Mayor Jared Gray praised Meta's long-standing commitment to the city, citing improvements in schools, roads, water systems, and job creation. Other data center companies like Tract, QTS, and Google have also acquired land in Eagle Mountain, attracted by Utah's data center sales tax exemption and available power. To support the growing energy demands, Lydian Energy is developing the Faraday battery storage facility, a 150-megawatt project with a long-term power purchase agreement with PacifiCorp, to serve the regional grid and the data center. Meta also highlighted its contributions to local water restoration projects, returning over 726 million gallons to the watershed.
