Joliet data center developers say they have 6,000 letters of support

Developers for a proposed data center in Joliet, Illinois, say they have 6,000 letters of support for the project. The Joliet City Council will vote on Monday on whether to approve the annexation of 795 acres for the data center, which would be located in an area of farmland. The project has faced intense public opposition, with over 3,000 people signing a petition against it. However, the Plan Commission has recommended approval and the city staff is also supporting the project. The data center developers have agreed to contribute $100 million to Joliet if the project is approved, in addition to an expected $310 million in property taxes over 30 years. The project has the support of regional construction unions, who expect over 7,000 jobs to be created during construction.
