Cherokee County to hold data center townhall meeting as moratorium continues
Cherokee County will hold a Nov. 18 open house in Canton to gather residents’ and business owners’ input for developing data center regulations. The meeting will take place while an active county moratorium on data center development remains in effect, although officials say no data center applications had been submitted.
Cherokee County officials announced that a data center open house will be held Nov. 18 at The Bluffs on Bluffs Parkway in Canton. The session, originally scheduled for October, will allow residents and business owners to ask questions and provide feedback as county staff develop an ordinance governing data centers.
The county currently has no defined data center regulations and has not received any data center applications, either before or after the moratorium was adopted by the commission in July. Community Development Director Brantley Day said officials want public input because of the potential community impacts of data centers, despite the county’s rocky terrain being considered unsuitable for many such facilities.
