Citizens for Rural Coweta submitted more than 14,800 registered-voter signatures to the Coweta County Probate Court in support of a Home Rule petition concerning data center zoning ordinances. The filing could lead to a countywide referendum allowing voters to decide whether to change or repeal portions of the county’s data center rules.

The petition was organized by Citizens for Rural Coweta after land was rezoned for the Project Sail data center in April. The group is awaiting the probate court’s review under Georgia law, which permits eligible local ordinance amendments or repeals through a petition signed by at least 10% of registered voters in qualifying counties.
