Local businesses land contracts at Amazon data center sites
Amazon's multi-billion dollar data center investment in Northwest Louisiana is fulfilling its promise of local jobs and contracts. Local businesses like JKC Construction and Flying Bee Rental have secured contracts, leading to job creation and economic growth in the Shreveport-Bossier City area. State officials and Governor John Bel Edwards previously stressed the importance of local hiring.
Amazon's substantial $18 billion investment across three data center campuses in Northwest Louisiana is beginning to deliver on its commitment to create local jobs and business opportunities. As construction intensifies on these sites, which are being developed by Stack Infrastructure and leased to Amazon Web Services, area contractors are reporting tangible work and growth.
According to state officials, the projects are expected to generate approximately 2,200 construction jobs and over 2,500 direct and indirect jobs in the long term. Jordan Shireen, owner of Haughton-based JKC Construction, successfully secured a 45-day land clearing contract after participating in contractor outreach events. He credits the Governor's emphasis on local hiring during communications with Stack Infrastructure, allowing his company to hire 15 new workers and utilize local equipment vendors. Another local business, Flying Bee Rental in Bossier City, providing sanitation and equipment services, also anticipates adding at least one new position due to the increased business.
Stack Infrastructure reports that about 51% of current contractors on these projects are from the Shreveport-Bossier area. The company has hosted three hiring and outreach events, engaging nearly 400 contractors. Local business owners are optimistic about continued opportunities as construction is projected to last another three to five years, with some facilities expected to come online next year.
